Service area
ShieldMePM provides year-round lawn care and property maintenance throughout the Galena area of south Reno, serving the custom homes and forested lots along Mt. Rose Highway and the streets branching off it toward Galena Creek Regional Park. Galena sits between roughly 4,800 and 6,000 feet elevation — noticeably higher than central Reno — which means more snow in winter, a shorter mow season, and an alpine soil profile that behaves differently from the lower valley.
Most yards here are large. Half-acre to two-plus-acre lots with Ponderosa pines, native shrubs, and established turf are the norm in communities like Galena Forest Estates, Galena Country Estates, and Galena Terrace Estates. That combination of size, tree cover, and mountain elevation shapes every maintenance decision — from how much snow we route to how aggressively we treat clay-heavy soil in the spring. We know the terrain, and we price for it honestly.
Local know-how
HOA presence in Galena varies by sub-community. Galena Forest Estates has a community association with CC&Rs that protect the forest character — architectural review applies to visible exterior changes, and tree removal typically requires approval. Galena Country Estates runs similarly. Lots range from a half-acre to over two acres, and many properties have native pine and scrub that shade turf and drop significant needle and cone debris through the fall. Elevation in the upper portions of Galena pushes past 5,500 feet, which means meaningful snow accumulation most winters and the real possibility of hard freezes well into May. TMWA even/odd watering restrictions apply to the lower residential areas on city service; properties drawing from private wells have more flexibility but face clay-and-caliche soils that need careful irrigation scheduling to avoid runoff. Irrigation systems must be winterized earlier here than in the valley — typically by mid-October — and spring start-ups often wait until late April to avoid a late freeze hitting fresh-opened heads.
